A while back Miranda was given a gently reminder by a local police officer that she didn't come to a full and complete stop at a local intersection. No ticket, just a warning. The kids were in the car at the time and since then they have been fascinated with the police and speed limits.
Yesterday, while driving the kids to the store, Emma tattled from the back seat:
"Mommy drove fast again, but the policeman didn't see her, so she didn't have to go to jail."
Busted.

Overheard: In the rocking chair
Emma was holding Aiden while sitting in a rocking chair. This in itself was a tender scene (sorry I didn't have my camera with me).
Emma: Daddy, I'm a good big sister to babies, aren't I?
Me: Yes, you are.
*pause*
Emma: And puppies and kittens too.
And yes, if you are wondering, I am the mean daddy who won't let his kids have puppies or kittens. I don't need pets. I have kids.

Reenactment
This morning the girls were playing upstairs. As usual, this went on for a few minutes until we heard the familiar scream and cry. Brent and I went upstairs to see what was going on. Emma saw us and said "Sydney hit me like this." She suddenly slapped herself in the face-Hard. Brent and I just burst out laughing. Emma, however, didn't think it was very funny at all.

Overheard: In the Kitchen
I had to be at work early this morning. At about 6:30 I was in the kitchen eating breakfast in a dark, quiet house. Suddenly it was less dark and less quiet as two little girls rounded the corner into the kitchen, blankets and stuffed animals in tow.
I guess they weren't expecting to see me there, because as soon as they saw me Emma's eyes got big and she exclaimed...
"What in the world is going on?!"

Overheard: In the Bathtub
Emma: (laying on her back in the tub with her head partially submerged) When my ears are both covered up it makes my voice sound really loud in my ears.
Me: Oh really?
Emma: Yeah. AHHHHHH!!!!!!!
I smile and chuckle at her excitement.
Emma: I like it when other people smile.
Me: Why is that?
Emma: Because it makes me smile.
Me: Oh really?

Our vacation is over???? WHAT!?!!?
Here at the Jackman house, we had a great Thanksgiving. We played hard and ate lots and now I need a vacation.....one filled with naps and no dishes. My family drove the 14 hours from Utah to visit for a week. Well, it's supposed to take 14 hours, don't ask them how long it ACTUALLY took them. Anyway, below are a few samples of how we spent our week. We also played canoe soccer (I think Shanlee got pictures of that).
WE all went to see Twilight and the boys went golfing. It was so fun to have my family here. I sure like them. It was nice to have a break from my kids. I don't think I fed them or put them to bed once (and yet, they were still fed and in bed on time). Thanks, family, for sacrificing your vacation to come play with us. The girls are still missing Grandma.
I have some friends who are really into caving (no, it's not called splunking). They took us to a cave one night. It was probably the highlight for everyone. We were sore for several days, but now we all think we're hard core cavers.
Here is a succession of pictures of my dad making it through one of the tight spots. Way to go dad!
Here is the opening to the cave that we had to go through...
We spent a lot of time working on Amelia's wedding invitations. Here they are picking out an engagement photo from the many wonderful photos that Brent took for them.

Emma was very excited to help Grandma make a homemade apple pie. Now if she can just get mommy to do that....
And of course, we had to start on our Christmas celebrations. Unfortunately, the candy on this gingerbread house only stayed there for a few hours.
