Miranda has been making drapes for our downstairs sliding glass door. The door is large and the drapes have been quite a project. Lots of fabric involved. Different patterns, rivets and lining. The sewing machine has been getting quite a workout.
They are just about done, so I got a ladder and began the process of mounting the rod to the wall. As I was up on the ladder Sydney asked:
"Daddy, are you putting up the drapes?"
Me: "Yup."
At which point Miranda thought this was a fantastic time for a teaching moment:
"Sydney, Mommy made the drapes and Daddy puts them up on the wall. Isn't it great how we work together?"
Sydney: "Yeah... but Daddy does most of the work."
Thanks Syd. Another night on the couch for me.
(By way of explanation: In Sydney's mind, work = hammer, screwdriver, measuring tape, etc. She doesn't consider the countless hours behind the sewing machine, stove, dishwasher, etc to be "work". Try explaining that to Miranda.)
