Emma wrote following article about her class field trip and was published in the school newsletter. I tried to scan it and it wouldn't work, so you'll have to read the article without the pictures.
"One day the second grade classes went on a field trip to Equine Voices Rescue and Sanctuary. A local horse rescue that has saved over 400 horses since they opened. We took a tour of the whole ranch with Ms. Karen, the founder. She was very excited and surprised when we gave them our donation of over $550! She said we could pick any horse we wanted to sponsor. We met so many horses! Sundance was used to moved drugs and then he was left tin the desert, Pirate's family moved away, and Gulliver was going to go to slaughter, but Ms. Karen saved them all! We loved all of the horses. We met Nick too, a very ill horse. He has a big huge burn on his back from a barn fire 8 years ago! He still has the burn today because no one took care of him until he came to Equine Voices. We decided that Nick needed our love and money the most. His medicine cost over $500 a month! We all got to take a picture with Nick. I hope Nick gets better, but he might now, but I do hope he does. I really liked Equine Voices and I learned that animals can't talk so they need us to take care of them. We are still collecting money for Nick and writing a book about him too!"
Emma's teacher Ms. Fitchlee has commented several times about how proud she was when the class decided to go here for their field trip and raise money for them. She was very moved to see the kids respond to the horses while there. Poor Emma prays for Nick every night and constantly asks me if we can adopt one of the horses. That girl does have a soft spot for animals.

She cried buckets when our dogs had to leave after visiting there...much more than for Grandma and Gramps! I am impressed with her second grade abilities...too bad you couldn't scan the drawings.
