A village project

Taylor turned nine a little bit ago.  Tradition dictates that she gets a newly decorated room for her birthday.  I was halfway through the process when  I injured my hand (still no improvement) and it looked like it wasn't going to get done after all.  Taylor was pretty bummed.  I was struggling to stay positive and desperately needed to accomplish something in my life to feel uplifted.  So, I asked for help.  It was hard and a little awkward but, like I said, I was desperate to get it done.  Some friends came and helped me prime her walls, and then pregnant Amelia and the sweet sister missionaries came and did the final painting.  I tried to help where I could but my left hand was pretty clumsy. Mostly, I chatted and brought water.

My mom helped sew and when my dad came into town a few weeks later, he finished hanging everything for me.  It was definitely a labor of love from my entire village of people.  And, it was very good for my morale.   Here is the final result:

My mom sewed the navy stripe into her existing curtains.  I love how the windows and her bed make a big statement.

I am in love with her bedspread.  I was able to spray paint the bench with my left hand

This set of end tables were a great find on craigslist.  And I had refinished them pre-injury-YAY!

This mirror is actually huge.  I think we will all come in here and use her mirror when we really want a good view.   And, you can see how I (Brent) lined her deep windowsills with wood to make them look like a shelf.  I did it in Aiden's room and have loved it.

My mom helped finish the desk for me.  And I do love a colorful chair!

I love this little corner.  Thanks Brent for installing crazy ideas for me!

I really hesitated adding these yarn tassels (another project Amelia and my mom executed).  I just wasn't sure how it would turn out.  But, now they're one of my favorite things.  They add a bit of whimsy and fun to the room.

Every time I come in here, I am uplifted.  Not only because of the fun bright colors and the sense of pride from a job well done.  But, also because I am reminded of how loved I am.  Of the people who were gracious and sensitive enough to know when I needed them. I have the best village!
