Amelia had prepared a trivia game, Robin picked up Chick-Fil-A for everyone, Angel did all the decorating. It made me feel loved and was a great way to end the day.
The next day, GEA started school and I started teaching. Everyone is required to wear masks at all times (except when eating lunch) and there are plexiglass dividers on each desk.
I'm not sure if I've posted about getting a job. Back in the spring, I decided that it was time. It's a bit of a long mid-life crisis kind of story. I won't go into the details, but I was feeling motivated to get some money saved for upcoming college/weddings/missions. I was very worried about balancing it all with the family. It was really hard to swallow.
In the end, I got a job teaching a middle school life skills class twice a week at GEA. I'm not sure how good I'll be, but the position checked all the boxes I needed in a job and I felt that it would allow me to keep a good work/mom life balance. It's been a few weeks now and giving up two days has definitely made me feel busy. There are a lot of good things about it ( the money, the schedule, feeling comfortable at the school) and some challenges (6th graders are the worst!, it's exhausting, life skills is inherently dull for teens). But, I've committed for the year, so we will reevaluate in May.
Also, the kids and I spent Fall Break in Utah. It was so nice to get out of our house! We stopped in St. George and spent the night at a really fun resort. The kids loved the paddle boards.
The next day I made them go hiking (and I told them, for my birthday, they couldn't complain). It was a really cool hike.
