Busy bodies......

The school year is wrapping up and we have been busy.

Busy playing:

We attended the annual Great Paper Airplane Contest.  Our airplanes were only average, but we won this awesome prize in the raffle.  Mr. Red M&M now graces our entryway.

I took a quick overnight trip to Starr Pass and sat by the pool chatting and eating with these lovely ladies.  It was so great!

The Clarks have been here for 3 months now and we are getting a lot of time with these cuties!  Love it!

Busy working

The girls did awesome in their piano ensemble performance!  I just love watching this each year.

Aiden earned his Webelos and Arrow of Light.  He's really enjoyed scouts and we are so proud of him!

The GEA band was busy earning all sorts of awards at their festivals.

Busy recovering

We had another episode of appendicitis.  Emma had been complaining of a stomach ache for about 24 hours.  After that, I started to really investigate and found her symptoms to be concerning.  The way she was moving, the way she was describing the pain, the way she screamed when I sat by her on the bed.  It was all very familiar.  This time I didn't hesitate and took her to the Urgent Care.  By the time we waited 2 hours to see the doctor, I was positive it was appendicitis.  The doctor pushed on her belly, Emma screamed, and off to the hospital we went (with a $120 bill-ugh!).

Eventually, an MRI confirmed that her appendix needed to come out.  Thankfully, it hadn't burst but was angry and inflamed.  So, after surgery and 2 nights in the hospital, she was home recovering.

I won't go into too much detail, but this definitely brought on a little PTSD for me.  Walking into radiology with her on the bed next to me brought back a lot of memories. I was hit with so many emotions and struggled to hold back the tears.

Later that night, I held Emma's hand while she waited 10 minutes for the next round of pain medicine to kick in again.  I coached her through each breath. I told her to hold on, relief was coming.  I was encouraging.  I helped distract her.  I hurt for her.  And then I thought about what a contrast that was to Aiden's first few days of pain and I sobbed with guilt.

So much gratitude Emma was not that bad.  So happy we were home in 48 hours will no complications.  So eerie that we were at the same hospital with the same surgeon on the same dates as 2 years ago.  So proud of Brent and I for doing that hard thing back then.  So grateful we were capable of doing this again. So happy to be home.  So proud of Emma and her ability to be kind and patient amid her suffering.

Busy preparing

End of school years bring on preparations for the next.  Emma tried out for a few new groups and was accepted to the Sahuarita Teen Advisory Council (like a teen town council), and the Walden Grove a Capella group, Red Harmony.  She will continue to do STUCO and has decided to go back to piano lessons after a year break.  Emma is over the moon excited about doing it all next year.  I am already stressed on her behalf.

Sydney also has some exciting things going on next year.  The biggest one is that she will be home schooling.  To make a long story short: she's always wanted to try it and the social scene at GEA was no longer a positive experience for her.  So, after six months of watching her struggle and begging me to let her do it, I conceded.  At first, I was overwhelmed and scared.  I started doing research, talked to several home school moms, and began making plans.  I've even gotten a little excited about some of it.  She is planning on going to Walden as a freshman, so this is just a one year hiatus from public school.  Wish us luck!

Each year, my kids amaze me with the talents and hard work.  So proud of all they do and who they are becoming.  Love them!!
